In April 1990, Hubble Space Telescope (HST) was carried into orbit by the space shuttle. The name of the telescope is related to an American astronomer Edwin Hubble. The telescope can catch photos of things so far away it would be nearly not possible to see them from anywhere else. You would be able to get from New York to San Francisco in 10 minutes, if you were going this speed on Earth. Astronomers were so happy when they saw first pictures which taken by Hubble. But they observed a defect with telescope’s mirror. Due to defect in the picture quality, it was repaired by astronauts of the space shuttle Endeavour in December, 1993 and who replaced critical instruments and added corrective optics while in orbit. Subsequent servicing missions, in 1997 and 1999 were added capabilities to HST, which observes the universe at ultraviolet, near-ultraviolet, visible, and near-infrared wavelengths.
