The J & K Govt. organizes Amarnath Yatra every year during the month of sharavan (July and August). According to the weather conditions and Purnima (Raksha Bandhan) in the month of Sharavan (Vikrama Samwat), dates of Amarnath Yatra is different every year. For Yatra to Baba Amarnath Holy Cave, one has to trek a height of about 14,500 ft that is full of thrill and joy. The feeling of divine is always beneath ones’ heart, burst out and one realizes ‘Moksha’ as one attends the Cave and performs the prayer before the Shivlinga. One will always feel His presence on the paradise of the earth when he is surrounded by beautiful valleys, mountains, and this memory hardly vanishes with time. One is required to get registered for performing this Yatra. J &K Govt does the registration. Tourist Offices are located at Delhi, Mumbai, Calcutta, Chennai, Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, Jammu and Srinagar. In the prescribed format, applications for registration are reproduced at www.amarnathyatra.org. Print of this form can be used for registration. After filling the application form, you can sent it to the registration office nearest to you, along with two passport size photographs duly affixed at the indicated places, a self addressed pre stamped envelope (for speed post) and a medical fitness certificate from an MBBS doctor. For registration, each yatri has to submit a separate application. A registration-cum-identity slip will be issued by the registration authority to each yatri. To ensure a smooth passage, yatris are advised to carry this identity slip during the Yatra period.

For the annual Amarnath Yatra in Jammu and Kashmir, which is commencing from June 18, registration has been started on Friday, 2 April 2010. On the first day, around 472 pilgrims registered themselves. At 100 different branches of J&K Bank (JKB) across the country, aspirant devotees can register themselves. RC Sharma, General Manager of JKB, and the incharge for registration said to News Agency of Kashmir adding the counters would be closed on July 30. He said, “the registration process for the annual pilgrimage has started and a total number of 2,86,680 pilgrims would be registered across the country by the bank branches,” and “We registered 472 pilgrims today at our different branches.”

For the registration, the bank has set up a counter at exhibition ground in Jammu. The counter will remain open from 3 pm to 6 pm on weekdays and on Saturday from 1 pm to 4 pm. However the counters will remain closed on Sundays. An insurance cover will be provided by the pilgrims from Bajaj Alliance on payment of fixed premium and the same will be valid for Jammu-Srinagar and a return journey back to Jammu. Sharma added, “Each devotee will have to pay Rs 24 and it will cover only the route from Jammu to Amarnath and a return to Jammu”. Sharma said that 2,86,680 devotees will include 1,2960 people from J&K, referring to the quota fixed for the states as per the population.

Sharma informed the agency, “UP has a maximum quota for being the biggest state population wise and other states would also get the quota as per their respective population. Around 14,400 pilgrims would be registered from Andhra Pradesh, 6000 from Bihar, 1440 from Chandigarh, 1800 from Chhattisgarh, 45000 from Delhi, 120 from Goa, 34800 from Gujarat, 21000 from Haryana, 2160 from Himachal Pradesh, 1080 from Karnataka, 240 from Kerela, Maharastra 22200, Madhya Pradesh 12000, West Bengal 4800, Rajasthan 6000, Punjab 29400, Uttranchal 1200, Tamil Naidu 1080 and Utter Pradesh 58200.”
