On 25th May, 2010, Dell has officially announced that it will launch Android powered 5-inch Dell Streak tablet, this June in UK. Specific launching date is not provided by the PC maker. The aim of this mobile internet device is to supply on-the-go mobile entertainment, social networking and navigation features.

Dell Inc. is a multinational information technology corporation and it is a member of the Open Handset Alliance (OHA), a syndicate of companies that are involved in developing the Android mobile platform. Dell android tablet Streak device was first shown at CES in January. Since mobile devices can now offer the same computing experience as desktops and notebooks, this streak tablet employs the users to access their extraneous virtualized desktops.

This Android-based tablet has 5-inch capacitive screen, 3G, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, GPS, much like most other Android devices. 1GHz Snapdragon processor is present in it same as in Google’s Nexus One and other smartphones. It will offer memory expansion through a microSD slot with 2GB internal memory as well. Along with expandable MicroSD card storage, this tablet device has specifications like 5 megapixel autofocus camera with flash.

The Dell android tablet Streak will launch in the U.K. in June and in the U.S. it will launch later this summer according to the company. The launching of the tablet will be carried out with partner UK mobile phone carrier O2. General Manager Steve Alder said, “It is a bold new class of product. It is something we wanted to bring to our customers first.”

“The Streak hits the sweet spot between traditional smartphones and larger-screen tablets. I am curious to see whether that’s a place consumers want to go,” said by Dell spokesman Ron Garriques in a statement. Dell promises video chat applications and other software innovations to be available down the road, for example, taking advantage of the Dell Streak’s front facing VGA Web camera.

In Europe, the Streak tablet will be available next month through Telefonica subsidiary O2, and AT&T according to company. Pricing or U.S. carrier details have not been announced by the company.

Other 7-inch and 10-inch Android tablets are also being planned by the computer maker for release later this year and next year. Also, they are planning to release a trio of smartphones.
