ICAI stands for Institute of Chartered Accountants of India which is a statutory body established under the Chartered Accountants Act, 1949 for the regulation of the profession of Chartered Accountants in India. Procedure to enter in CA_CPT Common Proficiency Test:

Minimum Educational Qualifications:
To register for CPT, candidates must have cleared 10th standard examination or any other examination as recognized by the central government as equivalent thereto. For appearing at CPT, candidates must have cleared 10 + 2 examination or any other examination as recognized by the central government as equivalent thereto. Students can be eligible to appear at the CPT examinations that have completed their 10th Standard and appeared in their 10 + 2 examinations. Along with his/her 10+2 course, student can prepare for the CPT.
Passing CPT » Failing 10 + 2:
Students can appear at the CPT examination and his/her 10 + 2 exams at same time. They have to pass in both the CPT as well as the 10 + 2 exams to be eligible for registering for the next level of the CA course i.e. PCC. If he/she fails in 10 + 2 examination, then in such case they do not appear at the CPT again. The student can subsequently register for PCC after passing the 10 + 2 examination.
Certificates to be furnished:
Along with the application for registration, Xerox copies of marks sheet of 10th standard Examination or any other examination as recognized by the central government should be attached as a proof of minimum educational qualification.
Registration » Last/Cut-off Dates:
There is no last date for registration; student can register for CPT course throughout the year. A student can appear for an examination after the minimum course duration (2 months from the date of registration) passed.
- June Examination: on or before same year April 1st and exams will be conducted in June of same year.
- December Examination: on or before same year October 1st and exams will be conducted in December of same year.
Registration » Validity Period:
Student once registered, can appear at the CPT examinations anytime by paying the examination fee as many times as needed.
Application/Prospectus » Where to Obtain/Submit:
For the purpose of administrative convenience, the ICAI is divided into five regions i.e. north, south, east, west, and central. If students are registering for Postal Coaching, then they can get the prospectus [Registration Application] at the institutes’ offices, the Head Office, the Regional Council or the Branches. For Oral Coaching, student can get the prospectus [Registration Application] at the coaching center. This application can submit at the Regional office relevant to the area which you give as the address for communication (generally your place of residence).
Application/Prospectus » Cost:
The cost of Application or Prospectus for Registering for the CPT Course is Rs. 100 by hand and Rs. 125 by Post.
Registration Fee:
The total fee includes fee for registration as well as for imparting coaching (generally POSTAL Coaching). The Postal Coaching fees is Rs. 1,500/- and the Oral coaching fee is decided by the coaching center. The Registration Fee is non-refundable in any circumstance.
