After that, it was divided into two companies, i.e. West Bengal State Electricity Transmission Company Limited (WBSETCL) and West Bengal State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (WBSEDCL). Under the provisions of West Bengal Power Reform Scheme, 2007, the split came into effect on 01.04.2007.

With consumer strength more than 74 lakhs, WBSEDCL is a major power utility of the state. WBSETCL provides electric power to 5 zones, 17 circles, 53 distribution divisions and 459 electric supply offices. All categories of consumers are catered by WBSEDCL which ranges from ordinary villagers to huge industrial units. The main aim of WBSEDCL is to spread electricity to all strata of society irrespective of socioeconomic differences.

To ensure the best of consumer services, WBSETCL also gives services of a fully computerized billing system which helps to reduce billing time and errors. Till now, WBSETCL introduced computerized billing in all 5 Distribution Zones, 17 out of 17 Distribution Circles, 47 out of 47 Distribution Divisions and 467 out of 467 Supply Stations, covering 100% L&MV consumers, 100% Decentralized Bulk and 100% centralized Bulk consumers. With the help of Consumer and Public Grievance Cell, they also solve consumer complaints and streamlining the redressal of public grievance to enable a speedy.

Through the official website of WBSEDCL (www.wbsedcl.in), customer can also get bill info. Bill info is divided into two options, Bulk Consumers and L&MV Consumers. Bulk Consumers can enter their 6 digit consumer number to know bill information while L&MV Consumers can enter 9 digits Consumer ID. WBSEDCL will introduce electricity bills payment system from a remote village in the state of West Bengal. So, it is easy to pay your bill without going far to your home.
